I have the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro in front of me, both running Xiaomi’s HyperOS, which includes a collaboration with Google specifically around some AI functionality and Gemini built-in. Let’s go ahead and unbox the 14T and then the T Pro.
On the side of the box, you’ll see “with your favorite Google apps.” The 14T I have here is in Titan Gray with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. As part of this collaboration, you have Google Gemini Nano built-in, which is a mini version of Google’s Gemini AI.
The accessories that come with the device include a USB-A to USB-C cable and a case to get you started. The 14T features a large 5,000mAh battery, a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra processor, a 144Hz AI display, and 67W HyperCharge. The device has a fairly boxy design with a Type-C port on the bottom, along with the SIM tray. There’s a little texture to the power button in this location, with the volume rocker above it. On the back, there’s a triple-camera setup, and the flash module is designed to blend in like another camera.
Unboxing the Xiaomi 14T Pro
For the 14T Pro, I also have the Titan Gray color. This model has 12GB of RAM and over a terabyte of storage. The unboxing experience is pretty similar—you still get a case, though it’s slightly different. However, this one comes with a different chipset—the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+—offering even more power.
Once again, you get a 144Hz AI display, but the charging is upgraded to 120W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge. The camera sensor is different, and while the design remains boxy, the Pro model has a slight curvature on the back. In terms of form factor and one-handed comfort, both devices feel essentially the same.
First Impressions and Features
Booting up the 14T Pro, it has a premium feel, featuring a metallic band around the edges. The camera layout and glass back give it a subtle matte finish. The flat edges make it comfortable to grip.
The display is bright and sharp. In the settings menu, I can push the refresh rate up to 144Hz, which makes the phone feel incredibly snappy. Gamers will appreciate this, but even for everyday use, it enhances the overall experience.
Testing out the camera, I found the color accuracy to be excellent. The device doesn’t jump around in adjusting temperature, making the images look consistent. At one point, I was testing the camera with a $1 bill, and the details were sharp.
Google and Xiaomi’s AI Collaboration
For those unfamiliar with Xiaomi, they’ve been expanding their product lineup across various categories. They now have products in audio, tablets, smartwatches, and even cars.
What ties all of these devices together is their HyperOS. Sometimes, when you hear about custom Android skins, they come with a lot of bloatware. However, I was surprised by how clean this OS feels. There aren’t unnecessary pre-installed apps, and all the Google apps—Gmail, Photos, Maps—come by default. Messages is the default messaging app, and Chrome is the default browser.
With Google’s deep integration, you also get AI features powered by Gemini, including tools like Photo Emoji, Magic Compose, and Circle to Search. Magic Compose uses Gemini Nano, analyzing up to 20 previous messages to adjust the tone of a drafted response. There are seven different writing styles available, such as excited, chill, Shakespearean, and formal.
Google has also opened up Gemini Nano to developers via the AI Edge SDK. This allows AI features to work directly on the device without needing cloud access, making them more efficient and secure.
Xiaomi’s AI-Powered Ecosystem
Beyond Google’s AI features, Xiaomi has implemented its own AI-powered apps and services within HyperOS. Since Xiaomi’s product lineup now extends to performance cars—like the one setting records on the Nürburgring—they have worked on enhancing smart home integration.
This means you can seamlessly copy and paste between your Xiaomi phone and tablet or take a photo on one device and have it instantly appear on another. The ecosystem also extends to smart home devices such as lights and security cameras, allowing them to communicate smoothly through HyperOS.
For instance, you can map your phone’s screen onto a larger display at home, so you don’t need to carry your device around. You can take calls or check important details directly from another connected Xiaomi device.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi 14T Pro is an excellent example of Xiaomi’s deepening partnership with Google. It brings a more native Google experience with less bloat, while still incorporating cutting-edge AI features. With HyperOS, Xiaomi is refining how AI and Android work together, creating a more connected ecosystem for the future.
