The rumor mill is buzzing once again, and with a new year comes the anticipation of a new Pixel launch. This time, the spotlight is on the upcoming Pixel 10, expected to be released later this year. Based on everything we’ve gathered so far, here are the five major developments you can expect from Google’s next flagship.

One of the most exciting changes is the likely partnership between Google and TSMC for manufacturing the new Tensor G5 chip. This collaboration has generated a lot of enthusiasm, and for good reason. The Tensor G5 will reportedly use the cutting-edge 3nm M3E process—the same technology behind Apple’s A18 Pro chips. This advancement promises improved performance, reduced power consumption, and better overall efficiency, which is a huge win for Pixel fans.

Digging deeper, the core layout of the Tensor G5 also marks a big shift. Unlike the Tensor G4’s 4+3+1 structure (one big core, three medium cores, and four small cores), the Tensor G5 will feature a 2+5+1 layout. The middle cluster will adopt a brand-new core design, which could lead to significant gains in both power efficiency and performance. Although the exact impact remains to be seen, expectations are high.

Another major upgrade is the new GPU, which will finally enable 4K video recording at 60fps with HDR support—a must-have for any premium smartphone in 2025. Along with improvements to cinematic mode, there’s hope that video recording will feature less aggressive cropping. With better processing power, the Pixel 10 should utilize more of the camera sensor’s pixels when downscaling to 4K, delivering sharper and more natural-looking video.

Beyond hardware, Google is introducing a major software innovation with the new Pixel Sense Assistant. Unlike the current Assistant, the Pixel Sense Assistant will handle more tasks directly on the device rather than relying heavily on cloud processing. This shift means faster, more contextual, and personalized responses across your Google apps, including YouTube, Google Maps, and others. It’s a significant step toward creating a truly seamless and instant digital assistant experience.

In line with this local processing push, Google’s new Gemini Nano models are designed for smaller devices like smartphones. This advancement could allow Google to tailor specific features based on hardware capabilities, potentially making some features exclusive to the Pixel 10 lineup. While it’s still unclear how restricted these features will be, the move marks an exciting evolution in how on-device AI is handled.

Google is also working on several new AI-powered features, such as “Speak to Tweak” for photo editing. This feature would let users describe edits like “make it warmer” or “crop slightly” using voice commands, making photo editing more accessible for everyone. Additionally, features similar to Samsung’s AI sketch completion are expected to arrive, along with a mysterious new tool called “Magic Mirror,” though details about it remain scarce.

As for the release timeline, Google is likely to follow last year’s schedule. That means an announcement around mid-August and a retail launch in early September. If you’re currently debating whether to buy a new phone, you’re right in that tricky spot—early enough to enjoy current models like the Pixel 9 Pro, but close enough to the Pixel 10 launch to consider waiting.

However, not all the news is rosy. Price increases are a real possibility. Based on previous patterns, a $100 price hike across the Pixel 10 range seems likely, although that’s not confirmed yet. While price jumps are never easy to accept, the significant upgrades expected with this release might justify the extra cost.

Overall, the Pixel 10 is shaping up to be one of Google’s most exciting smartphone releases yet. Between a powerful new chip, significant AI enhancements, and thoughtful software upgrades, there’s a lot to look forward to. Stay tuned for more updates as the official launch draws closer.
