The Honor GT Pro isn’t just another flagship—it’s a statement. From the powerful internals to the aggressive pricing strategy, this launch stands out for all the right reasons. Honor has gone all-in, and there’s a very specific reason behind this bold move.
Honor’s market share in China has been slipping year-over-year, and while that’s not unusual in a competitive landscape, timing matters. The brand is preparing for its IPO, and with that comes the need to project stability, growth, and innovation. Recently, a major leadership shake-up, including the departure of the CEO, added pressure. The GT Pro is the first device launched under the new regime—and it’s clearly been designed to win consumer trust back.
Battery
The GT Pro is available in multiple colors and RAM/storage options. Inside the box, you get the phone, a SIM ejector tool, a soft transparent case, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a 90W supercharger. Despite having a massive 7200mAh silicon carbon battery, the phone remains relatively slim and light for a modern flagship.
Thanks to the 90W fast charger, it can go from 0 to 100% in under an hour. On top of the raw capacity, Honor has implemented a dedicated battery optimization chip and a SOC voltage regulator for efficient power usage. There’s also variable refresh rate (VRR) support for gaming, in addition to LTPO technology, which helps conserve energy.
Initial battery life reports from China are overwhelmingly positive, and even in early personal use, the endurance is impressive.
Display and Audio
The GT Pro sports a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED panel protected by Rhino Glass. It offers a 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Bezel symmetry is excellent, with only a slight thickness at the bottom. The display delivers peak HDR brightness of 6000 nits (claimed) and around 1500 nits in regular usage—making it very legible outdoors.
For those sensitive to OLED flicker, the phone supports 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, with an option to switch to DC dimming via developer settings. Honor’s usual suite of eye-protection features is also included.
Audio is equally impressive. Using the same stereo speaker setup as the Magic 7 series, the GT Pro offers some of the best sound quality available on any smartphone today.
Build Quality and Design
Design-wise, the GT Pro is a departure from last year’s GT. The rear camera module is now centered within a rounded rectangle, the GT logo is more subtle, and the back is made of fiberglass, while the frame is metal. The back is resistant to fingerprints, though the frame is not.
The phone’s ergonomics are solid. A 3D curved back helps it sit comfortably in hand, and the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is extremely responsive, unlocking the phone with just a gentle touch.
The phone also has an IP68/IP69 rating, making it highly resistant to water and dust. The only omission here is wireless charging, which seems like a fair trade-off considering everything else it offers.
Performance and Software
One of the biggest highlights is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Edition processor. It’s a step above the Galaxy-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Elite variant, offering higher CPU and GPU clock speeds. Paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the GT Pro is clearly built for speed.
Performance-wise, the phone handles day-to-day tasks effortlessly and feels fast and fluid. Thermal management during stress testing showed it peaks at a very cool 40°C after 20 minutes, although there is around a 60% performance drop-off in sustained performance—typical for most non-gaming phones.
Gaming performance is solid, especially when combined with the smooth display and high-quality audio. While external cooling may be required for the best sustained performance, the experience remains great for the majority of users.
The software, Magic OS, runs smoothly, offering a responsive and intuitive user experience.
Cameras
The GT Pro features four 50MP sensors. The primary camera is a 1/1.56″ sensor with an f/1.95 lens and OIS. In well-lit conditions, the photos are sharp, with vibrant dynamic range and excellent detail. A snapshot mode is also available to capture moving subjects without blur.
That said, the camera setup is good—but not ultra-premium. It falls slightly short of the best flagships out there, which is understandable given the pricing strategy. Still, it offers more than enough for casual and even semi-professional photography.
Final Thoughts
The Honor GT Pro is a remarkable flagship that strikes an excellent balance between power, design, battery life, and price. In a market filled with minor iterations, this phone stands out as a major leap forward—not just for Honor, but for consumers looking for real value.
Honor needed a win, and with the GT Pro, they might just have one.
